Why I Started Aphrodite Boutik

1 May 2026 · by Marie-Kelly

The beginning was a burn-out

I had been working in hospitality management for eleven years. Long hours, beautiful hotels, no time for myself. One day, I came home to find a box of essential oils I had ordered months before — unopened, forgotten on the shelf.

I sat down on my kitchen floor and started mixing.

Mauritius gave me everything

This island is extraordinary. Volcanic clay from the south. Raw honey from small farms near Curepipe. Coconut palms everywhere you look. I realised that the most potent ingredients in the world were growing in my own backyard.

Why small batches, always

I make everything myself, by hand, in my kitchen. Every batch is between 15 and 40 units. That is not a marketing strategy — it is the honest limit of what one person can make with care.

When something sells out, it means people loved it. When there is a waitlist, it means what I am doing matters.

What Aphrodite means to me

Aphrodite is the goddess of beauty — but more importantly, of self-love. Every product I make is an invitation to slow down, to feel something beautiful, to treat yourself as someone worth caring for.

That is the whole vision.
